The Reality of the MMA

Filed under: MMA Training, Mixed Martial Arts — ReedFighter @ 6:33 pm

172104_arte_marcialA lot of places still don’t like to hold MMA events because they have the misconception that the sport is barbaric and the people who participate in it are nothing but a bunch of knuckle-draggers. That’s far from the truth, however.

If you go and watch a class at MMA Richmond or another fine school you’ll see that the sport is actually very athletic and that it requires a lot of skill. It’s not brawling, and it’s actually much safer and has a lower injury rate than boxing. This is generally because MMA fighters aren’t being hit as hard based on the kinds of gloves that they wear, and because there is more time spent on the ground and in other forms of submission as opposed to only punching.

These are important distinctions that a lot of people unfortunately overlook when they are considering MMA versus other types of sports and when they are trying to decide what they feel is ’safe’ and what is not. A little honest research into MMA can show you what is reality and what is not.

Workout Like You Were At MMA Richmond

270905_yorgos03Even if you train regularly at MMA Richmond you might want to work out and hone your skills when you’re at home, too, or just at the gym for a more ’standard’ workout.

If that’s the case, there are a lot of MMA style exercises that you can do, and they will benefit your overall health and fitness level even if you aren’t actively interested in training for the MMA. Some people just like the workout in general because it’s unique and different and you can change it up so that it doesn’t get boring.

It’s also only three days a week, so if you work a lot or you want to incorporate something else on your off days you can easily do that. An MMA workout isn’t easy, though, and MMA fighters are some of the best trained and most athletic in the world.

Don’t expect to be able to do a complete MMA workout all at once. It’s better to work your way into it so that you can get used to what you’re doing without hurting yourself and potentially causing a serious injury.

Does Age Matter in the MMA?

Filed under: MMA Training, Mixed Martial Arts — Tags: , — ReedFighter @ 6:24 pm

322088_by_the_beach2As people age their bodies just simply will not allow them to do as much as they could when they were younger. Some of that can be offset by good physical conditioning, but at some point even that ceases to be enough. However, all the data compiled on MMA so far shows that it’s not as dangerous as football or boxing, so in theory the average age of

MMA fighters when they retire could be higher than the retirement age for other sports. When MMA first started to become popular a lot of the fighters were older guys who came in from other sports. Now there are a lot of younger guys (and girls) starting in the sport. Some of them are winning serious title fights in their early to mid-twenties, but whether that makes it harder for older guys to compete still remains to be seen.

Schools like MMA Richmond are seeing people start to train at a younger age, though, which is an indication of the trend that the sport is taking and what it might do in the future.
